Next Steps

What Happens After You Contact Us

Reaching out does not commit you to anything. Here is how it usually goes.

01

Your Message Reaches the Office

A call goes to the Sherman Oaks office. A form message goes to the firm with the contact details you provide.

02

We Follow Up With You

Someone from the firm contacts you using the phone number or email you gave, to hear what happened and arrange a consultation.

03

A Free Consultation

We go over how the injury happened, the treatment so far, any insurance calls or letters, and the deadlines that may apply to you.

04

A Written Agreement, If We Take the Case

Attorney’s fees are contingent on a recovery. The fee and how case costs are handled are set out in a written agreement before you sign anything.

05

If We Do Not Take the Case

You are free to speak with another lawyer. The legal deadlines keep running either way, so do not wait long to get a second opinion.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the consultation free?

Yes. There is no charge to talk with the firm about what happened and whether you may have a claim.

How are attorney’s fees paid?

Attorney’s fees for qualifying matters are contingent on obtaining a recovery, so there is no attorney’s fee unless we recover for you. Case costs are separate from attorney’s fees, and how they are handled is set out in the written fee agreement.

Does contacting the firm make you my lawyer?

No. Calling or submitting the form does not create an attorney-client relationship. Information you send is not confidential until the firm agrees to represent you, so share the basic facts and leave the details for the consultation.

How long do I have to file an injury claim in California?

Most personal injury lawsuits must be filed within two years under Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1. If a city, county or other public agency may be responsible, a written claim is usually due within six months under Government Code section 911.2. Other deadlines can apply, so it is better to ask early.

Should I talk to the insurance company before I call a lawyer?

Report the accident to your own insurer as your policy requires. Before you give a recorded statement to the other side’s insurer or sign a release, it is worth getting advice, because a signed release generally ends the claim.
